Young Boy Dies on World’s Tallest Waterslide

On Sunday, August 7, a young boy died on the world’s tallest waterside in Kansas City.

According to authorities, the accident happened on the Verruckt water slide at the Schlitterbahn Water Park in Kansas City, Missouri. The slide is 17 storeys tall, some 168 feet, and was opened in July 2014.

Caleb Schwab, aged 10 and the son of lawmaker Reb. Scott Schwab was in a boat on the slide with two women. They both suffered minor facial injuries and Caleb died of what was called a fatal neck injury.

Riders on the slide are supposed to be at least 54 inches tall and they climb 264 stairs to the top before getting into the rafts to slide down, which reach speeds up to 70 mph.

The water park passed its annual inspection in June as Kansas law requires permanent rides to be inspected annually by their parks. However, following the accident people are now coming forward and talking about children who are too small being allowed to ride and shoulder straps breaking or falling off during the ride.

The investigation into the tragic death is ongoing,
